PANTONE, the world’s experts in professional colour guides, have recently announced the creation of “Love Symbol #2”, a distinctive blue based purple hue inspired by international pop icon, Prince.

The purple shade was inspired by Prince’s custom-made Yamaha purple piano which was originally scheduled to go on tour with him before his unfortunate passing at the age of 57 last year. Prince’s original association with the colour rose in 1984 with the release of the film Purple Rain, alongside its award-winning soundtrack which featured Prince’s much-loved hit, resulting in a number of awards for the pop icon.

Laurie Pressman, Vice-President of the PANTONE Color Institute, said:

We are honoured to have worked on the development of Love Symbol #2, a distinctive new purple shade created in memory of Prince, ‘the purple one’. A musical icon known for his artistic brilliance, Love Symbol #2 is emblematic of Prince’s distinctive style. Long associated with the purple family, Love Symbol #2 enables Prince’s unique purple shade to be consistently replicated and maintain the same iconic status as the man himself.”

The shade of purple has been noted to convey an aura of mystery, intrigue and unconventionality, and stands apart from all other colours, something Prince was famous for doing with his unique style.

Prince has long been considered one of the most important, influential and impactful artists in history, selling 100 million records worldwide, he remains one of the best-selling artists of all time.
